Balloon Duel

"Bloody brilliant."

submission: Balloon Duel
date: June 25, 2004

This is easily one of the best games I have ever played on Newgrounds, and is going right on my favorites list. You can tell a game is goo when you decide to blow 1 hour on it, customizing your character.

The graphics were great. Everything was customizable, so I spent my time turning my character into a solid white angel with all sorts of interesting extras added on. All the extras were drawn well and most varied well with the ret of them, instead of just having slight differences between them. Small details like the gloves and shoes on your character can really make it look a lot better.

You've done a wonderful thing with the sound by not putting it in. You let the player customize that as well, so while I was flying around and smacking people wih my wooden sword, I was also listening to my G3 CD. This was a very innovative feature, and the only other game I've seen it implimented into was GTA 3. Definetely a 10 on sound.

Now to the main point, the gameplay. It was great. You can customize just about everything in the game, from your character, sound, skin color, and the most important one, your weapon/wings. I'm going to guess that you got a bit of inspiration from Gunbound, since the characters look sort of the same, and GB has the same sort of customizable features. If you're not doing well with a certain accessory, you can just change it to whatever you like, provided you have enough money. The best one was probably the angel wings, since I developed an unfriendly strategy of dashing up and ricocheting off the roof, and running into my opponent's balloons. They were also useful for getting a last shot at taking out the enemy once you lose all your balloons.

Overall, 10. I'll save my character "lololinternet" for playing again some time, and eventually save up enough to buy a scroll, so I can shoot black wispy things all over the place. Angel wings = Best.

Edn.

Violin Torture

"Why yes, Fourstar, it was beautiful."

submission: Violin Torture

The heavenly sounds that flow from your violin emit your very soul along with them. Your classical masterpiece sends me to a place that words can not express. Fine music such as this should be appreciated, not crowned with an award such as the one you have recieved. Apparently people do not understand the soul of a composer such as yourself.

yes, very few people understand my musical genious

Was that Vash's gun from Trigun? No matter.

Livecorpse dies, everyone denies it at first(including me), idiots post that they are glad he is dead, Artificial leaves NG forever. Cerealboxclock(Zach Finley) dies, and Tom's official news topic gets less pages than LC does, and he died of an accident.

Livecorpse stabbed someone and shot a cop in the leg. Not intentionally, since his neighbor was apparently trying to break into his appartment, and he was trying to get away from the cop, but he did it. He didn't want to go to jail though, so he decided to kill himself. If he had just explained what happened with his neighbor instead of running away, this may have not happened.

Too bad he was having trouble paying his rent anyway, and he didn't want to live on the street, so he might have done it shortly after that. Either way, idiots need to get the fuck out of his thread.

R.I.P. LiveCorpse, you were one of the few members of this site that were worth anything.

Author's Response:

yes it was his gun. its a nice gun. but that's not the point.

One Wish

"Touching"

submission: One Wish

Time for me to ponder whether or not to put this on my favorites list. I'll go for.....yes.

Graphics wise, they were o.k. Nothing too spectacular, but good enough to make the message come through better. The point of this movie wouldn't have been conveyed if the graphics were horrible, since most people tend to lose interest when they see animation that doesn't live up to their standards. I'm not saying the graphics are bad at all, just not as brilliant as say....Bitey of Brackenwood, but this excells over it plot wise, so you get more points for that.

The sound was good enough. No voices, but that doesn't really matter, seeing as they probably would have cluttered it up. I always find that animations like this work well with nothing but music, so going without voices was a good choice. The only real problem was the blue text, which at times was difficult to read.

Now for the major part, and the reason you decided to make the animation. Style always falls before most of the other elements of a flash for me. You can have a flash with the best animation I've ever seen, but if the story is pathetic, the watcher is probably going to lose inerest. The inspirational story of a crippled child at his first day of school, being picked on by the prats that sit behind him, but finds someone kind enough to see through his disability. This leads to him wishing that he could walk, and through the wonders of a dream, is able to walk again, then winds the gold medal.

You get a 5, and a well earned daily feature award. Continue making flash, as you're one of the few authors that actually brings something worthwile to Newgrounds.

Author's Response:

oh thankyou, glad you added to your favorates and make sure you enjoy the whole site of NG not just this.

Madness Apotheosis

"Well then..."

submission: Madness Apotheosis
date: June 3, 2004

I guess he's actually dead now, having blow himself up completely. That is unless he decides to return in another cartoon with half his body made entirely out of bandages. Apparently this is the ned. No more Madness, which causes me to become unhappy and throw things.

Graphics in this one were better than your others. It's good that you decided to actually make the zombies look like zombies in this one, instead of just making the heads glow green. I didn't even think of them as zombies before. Everything moved fluently, everything was well drawn, and once again, the movie is better than all of your tributes combined.

The sound was simple enough. The sound effects were always on cue, and the music was good enough to set the mood. It wouldn't really feel as good if the shots were off cue.

Once again, you made another brilliant flash, that's eventually going to end up on the front page once it passes judgment, and earn all sorts of awards. And it deserves it.

5/5

Psycho Bunny

"Brilliant"

submission: Psycho Bunny
date: June 2, 2004

A true flash masterpiece. One of the few animations that is actually going to stay in my favorites. Most of the others I just add there, then remove later, but this one is staying.

The graphics are easily some of the best I've ever seen. The drawings of the rabbit crunched up in the fetal position was great. The demons were drawn greatly. The animation was fluent. Overall, it's one of the ones that I would have to think hard to remember a flash with better graphics.

The sound was great. The song you chose added the perfect mood you were hoping to achieve, and it was imported well into the flash so it didn't sound muffled or low quality. I'm thinking that there should have been some more sound effects, but that proably would have gotten in the way of the song, with all the lashing and stabbing and whatnot. I'm glad you left the SFX out.

I've always had a thing for flashes that have some sort of artistic theme that makes you actually think about the true meaning of the flash. This one could be interpreted in many different ways, which just makes it even better.

Yesterday I voted five on this, today I voted five on this, and I will do so again tomorrow. It's a bloody brilliant flash, and that's my final statement.

"Waterman" Ep. V

"Still good, just not AS good."

submission: "Waterman" Ep. V
date: June 2, 2004

Graphics wise, it still doesn't get much better than this. Everything moves fluently, everything is well drawn, it has a good frame rate, and my computer is unable to handle it on high quality. Unfortunately, the graphics aren't the main focus of your movies, otherwise you would be getting a 9 or a 10 overall.

The main focus of your Waterman is humor, and I'm sad to say that you've been slipping a bit on it. The first one you made was brilliant. The second one wasn't as good as the first one, but still good. Then you sort of lost it after that. I didn't laugh much, but you regained most of it in this one. The Oregon Trail reference and the time portal parts were the only bits I actually found funny in this one. Still funny enough to maintain your reputation, but it fails to live up to your first one.

The sound is fairly good. It sounds a bit sputtery at the beginning, but you stop noticing as it goes on. I don't know if it's just a poorly made microphone, but it just needs a slight improvement.

Violence wise, you decided to throw in pirates fighting ninjas, which is never a bad thing in my book. I swear I've seen that pirate somewhere else before, but I can't remember where.

Overall, still godd and frontpage worthy. I voted 5, but I hope that you'll cut out some of the unrfunny crap in the next one.
